Paws for Literacy® Second Event a HUGE Success!

Our second 'Paws for Literacy®' event that took place on April 25th at the Wellington County Library, Hillsburgh Branch was another resounding success.  In spite the multitude of competing events due to Earth week, 15 school aged children convened at the Library to read to our Literacy Assistance Dogs.  For what the media reported on this event, please click here.

Spirit Ridge K9 Training & Rescue intends to continue to be at the forefront of promoting literacy amongst the children in our County, as well as raising awareness of the great accomplishments that our canine friends are capable of given the opportunity and proper attention - much like our children, in other words.

Below, is a picture of our Literacy Assistance Dogs and handlers from the April 25th event.  More photos will follow soon as they are processed.

For more information on our Paws for Literacy® programme objectives, volunteers (both human and our 'Literacy Assistance Dogs'), as well as photos and testimonials from the successful launching of our programme, please  follow this link.

Our next 'Paws for Literacy®' event is scheduled for July 11th between 1 and 3PM.  For parents interested in enrolling their children in this worthy event or to get more information, please call Donna or Leah at the Hillsburgh Branch (tel: 519-855-4010 or, via e-mail: Hillsburghlib@county.wellington.on.ca).

If you would like more information on what is involved in certifying your dog to be a 'Literacy Assistance' volunteer dog and to eventually join our volunteer programme, you mail send us an e-mail or call (519) 855-6962.
