Welcome to the site of Spirit Ridge K9 Training & Rescue! As you will be able to tell from our content, Spirit Ridge is a sanctuary for handlers with difficult dogs coming from a variety of backgrounds in addition to a 'Rescue' facility for (primarily) Belgian Shepherds that have been abandoned at Humane Societies and/or SPCAs. In addition to having three rescued dogs of our own, we have been able to rehabilitate and re-home many dogs that are now thriving in their new environments. Please check our Rescued Hall of Fame and enjoy some of our success stories.
Our training & rescue facility is located in the beautiful Town of Erin just 5 minutes northwest of the village of Hillsburgh. We get our name from our location - which is at the base of what locals call 'moonshine mountain'. This is where in the '30s and '40s the local youth would come and enjoy their illegal moonshine while having a great vantage point to spot any incursions by the local 'authorities'. Spirit comes from the 'moonshine' and Ridge from the 'mountain' portion of the name of our location.
No dog is too difficult for us; every animal deserves a chance before conveniently being abandoned or even euthanized. We consider our facility more of a sanctuary where we take the time to help handlers with 'difficult' dogs by assessing their state and offering practical solutions that will help restore calmness and harmony in the household. ....... more
